An Evening of the Music of David Sanborn

WJan Prax

Jan Prax is one of the most dynamic and influential voices in the European music scene. Born in Germany to a family of Polish musicians, he began as a classical pianist before the saxophone ignited his passion for jazz and improvisation. Recognized early for his talent, he earned scholarships from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and Berklee College of Music, paving the way for an international career. With his quartet, he won the Future Sounds Award at the Leverkusener Jazztage, gaining recognition for Keepin’ A Style Alive (ACT Music) and Ascending—albums that fuse deep-rooted tradition with modern intensity. In 2023, he expanded his sonic universe with Head to the Sky, collaborating with Gene Lake, Ricky Peterson, and Nicky Moroch—all former David Sanborn band members—blurring the lines between groove, melody, and raw energy. On stage, Prax channels fire and finesse, performing alongside David Sanborn, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Riccardo del Fra, and Randy Brecker at world-renowned venues like the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and Kölner Philharmonie. His artistry stretches beyond genre—interpreting Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto with orchestra and collaborating with the Heavytones and hip-hop artist Xatar. Rooted in tradition yet unbound by convention, Jan Prax crafts a sound that is ever-evolving—pushing forward while honoring the echoes of the past, captivating audiences worldwide.n and Nicky Moroch.rite your text here...
